I was sitting on the couch minding my business. The living room was only filled with my breaths and me munching on my hot Cheetos. On the couch, there were some blankets I covered myself up with to be even more comfortable. At my state, I was creating the world around me quite and tranquil. It was late and I didn’t have to work the next day so the night was to myself and my TV. All was well until I changed the Chanel to “NEWS AT 9 PM.” The anchor woman seemed distressed in her tone of voice but addressed the audience? maintaining a great sense of professionalism. She told me and everyone else watching:

“It has come to my attention to alert all Denver residents in the metro area that there is an active serial killer. Over the past couple of days we have followed various homicides and the police have concluded they are all tied with the one killer who has been consistent with their intentions and actions. It is alleged that this killer is responsible for at least 9 deaths in the last 3 days. What's for sure is this: the killer attacks those a part of evening and/or late parties or other social gatherings. This means, the killer is most active as night, considering how the timing of the previous murders were later in the day. The killers victims have only been younger individuals and it is expected to remain that way. According to witness reports and various clues left behind, the killer is determined to murder anyone who doesn’t follow social distancing guidelines and/or wears a mask. This explains their need to hit spots where parties are occurring and such other festivities. This new insensible way of pushing for safety regulation and public obligation to laws in effect as a result of the pandemic has deemed this murderer “The Party Killer.” As if there wasn’t any more of a better reason to go out, there is now a killer on the loose. Please be advised and stay careful. The police have found no suspects or any details about the killers identity and appearance. Tom is standing with us in Denver, I’ll take it to you Tom”

As she turned it to the news anchor on the scene, I dropped my remote in astonishment. Unconvinced of this tragedy, I picked up my remote from the ground and flipped through multiple news channels to validate what I just heard. I went above and beyond by grabbing out my phone and googling “The Party Killer.” Everything checked out. Denver not only has to deal with a pandemic but if you break the rules of keeping 6feet a part you could die? I knew there was something odd with the increase of teenage deaths this past week but I couldn’t believe Denver had a nationwide known serial killer. I can understand someone’s frustration with people not taking COVID-19 seriously but to take it to the extent of ending innocent people’s lives just to bring attention to the mandates seems a bit much. Thankfully, I had my blankets and hot Cheetos to comfort me. I became even more terrified about sitting alone in the dark except this fear was met with a realization that it’s better to be alone. It’s those with other people that should be scared. Maybe this killer is crazy and has a point. There’s a better way to approach bringing awareness to the severity of this pandemic. Sadly, I’ll have to cancel my dogs surprise birthday party. Or maybe not? I hope this killer is a dog person.
